Lake Almanor is one of the largest man made lakes in California. It was created  by PG&E and supplies hydro power. The dam is located at the   southwestern end of the lake. You can reach it by driving around the lake or  just rent a boat. The lake is  great  for water sports, skiing, swimming   wake boarding. As you can see from the photos , taken early in July, the   lake is not crowded . At the southeastern end of the lake you will find the inlet of the Hamilton  branch. When the lake level permits it you can float up the branch and fish  for rainbows . There are plenty of guide services in the area  for those you who feel uncomfortable fishing a new lake. If you are staying  at the cabin  in the Country Club and want to enjoy the lake experience , you can rent a boat or jetski at Major's outpostLittle Norway or Big cove.  If you want your kids to learn watersports then try Wilson water  sports. Norm Wilson has probably taught most of the kids at Alamanor how to ski or wakeboard. He's patient , affordable and probably the safest way for your  kids to learn watersports. The other way to enjoy the lake is to visit one or  both of the recreation areas. Our cabin is located about 1/2 Mile from Rec. 1. Rec. Area 1 has tennis, basketball,  volleyball, tetherball, a picnic area , a play area, and a sandy beach. During  the summer months there are also bands scheduled for the evening, and movie  nights for the kids. Most evenings the family will congregate down at Rec. 1 to socialize and relax. The other recreation area,  Rec. 2  is on the Lassen  side of the lake. The lake offers some wonderful views of Lassen
