LAKE ALMANOR INN. At the southeast corner of Lake Alamanor you will find a great trout stream known as the Hamilton Branch. It's at the intersection of Highway A13 and Highway 147. The best time to fish is early morning or late afternoon. On the Inn side ( East ) of A13 you can follow the path down to the river. This area is probably best for fly fishing and you have to stake out a place early. The Hamilton branch is fairly rocky on this side so its probably not best for little kids. Plus you have to plow through the underbrush to get down to the river. The second choice is on the west side of A13, north of the bridge . Simply cross A13 and walk north over the bridge. Once you get off the bridge you will notice paths that lead down to the stream. Its pretty steep going so watch your step. There are many places along the river to fish. If you hit the time right you should be able to see the rainbows in the pools. If you don't see any fish or any other fisherman, you are not there at the right time. It's easy to catch the limit ( 5) if you have the right tackle and bait ( check with locals, but crickets and salmon eggs have always worked for me ). On the south side of the bridge there are two locations. The first is near A13. From the Inn simply cross A13 and find the path down the hill to the stream. The other south side location will require you to relocate your car. So, head west on 147 and right across from the BP gas station turn right and park in the dirt lot. This is the PG&E power station. Follow the pipeline down the hill until you get to the power station. You can fish either side of the power station. On your return from hamilton branch up Highway A13 you will encounter a fantastic view of Mount Lassen Don't miss it. Click here for a view up the hamilton branch
